>>>- Calibrated against an international standard (NIBSC catalog 76/589).
PRACTICAL
>>>- Sample: serum, plasma, venous or capillary whole blood.
>>>- Rapid : results in 5 minutes.
>>>- Long shelf life : 18 months.
SIMPLE
>>>- Packaging presentation : 20 tests per kit.
>>>>>>>>>- 20 aluminium pouches, each includes one dipstick and one dessicant bag,
>>>>>>>>>- 20 dilution tubes with caps,
>>>>>>>>>- 1 vial of positive control,
>>>>>>>>>- 1 vial of dilution buffer,
>>>>>>>>>- 1 cardboard workstation.
EFFICIENT
>>>- Presence of two bands shows two different detection limit :
>>>>>>>>>- 1st band : detection limit 0.1 IU/ml on serum and 0.2 IU/ml on whole blood,
>>>>>>>>>- 2nd band : detection limit 0.5 IU/ml on serum and 1.0 IU/ml on whole blood.
Clostridium tetani is a bacterium that causes tetanus for humans. Toxin of Clostridium tetani binds to the membranes of the peripheric nervous cells and inhibits the release of neurotransmitters.
Antibodies of tetanus toxin are produced in the human by the injection of chemically inactivated tetanus toxin (tetanus toxoid). Immunization is the best way to prevent C. tetani infections in children and adults. Moreover, injection of specific and purified anti tetanus toxin IgG is used in order to refrain toxin action during an acute infection. Antibodies of the toxin can bind to and inactivate the toxin before it attacks muscles and nerves, though.
In emergency situations, it is important for the clinician to know the immune status, in order to choose the correct antitetanus prophylaxis for high risk patients (deep wounds).
